How much luggage can I take on the Glacier Express? ›

Preda & Bergün

Regarded as one of the most spectacular sections of the Glacier Express, the route between Preda and Bergün includes six towering viaducts, giving you an amazing view as you chug along.

A: If you're traveling from Zermatt to St. Moritz, the right side of the train provides the most stunning views. Of course, if you're going in the opposite direction, the views flip. We estimate about 85% of the most picturesque sights are on the right side.

The Glacier Express - known as the 'Slowest Express Train in the World' (and arguably the most scenic) - connects the mountain resort towns of Matterhorn adjacent to Zermatt and St Moritz in the Swiss Alps.

You can board the Glacier Express at either end. There are stops en route at Brig, Andermatt, Disentis, Chur, Tiefencastel, Filisur and Samedan, and you can hop off or on at any of them.

There is a wheelchair compartment and a toilet suitable for use by disabled persons in the 1st class section of every Glacier Express train.

The seat reservation is obligatory and will be levied on anyone travelling by the Glacier Express. The fee must be paid in full by all passengers, including children and ohters holding discount travel passes. This does not apply to children under six who do not require a seat.

Reservations for Glacier Express in 1st and 2nd class can be made at the earliest 93 days in advance.

Most passengers board the Glacier Express at Zermatt or St. Moritz, though you can purchase tickets for shorter sections of the route. From Interlaken, take a train to Brig and board the Glacier Express there; from Lucerne or Zurich, take a train to Chur to make your connection.
