Power Rangers: 10 Best Green Ranger Fan Art (2024)

Ever since Tommy Oliver made waves as the first Green Ranger — not to mention the first evil Ranger — green has been a special color in the Power Rangers franchise. Tommy would bedevil the original Power Rangers team repeatedly until the Red Ranger freed him from Rita Repulsa’s spell.

Tommy then joined the Power Rangers, becoming their most popular member. While he didn’t stay Green Ranger for much longer, his emerald legacy lives on, including in his Green and Sixth Ranger successors. Tommy and those who’ve followed him have inspired many a fan artist to tap into the Morphin Grid and create truly impressive work.

They say clothes make the man, although in this case, it’s figuratively the other way around. The first half of Tommy’s Ranger history during the Mighty Morphin era is represented here, with his Green Ranger uniform, Power Coin, and Dragonzord being the most prominently shown.

The Tigerzord on Tommy’s sleeve is a nice nod to his later White Ranger identity, but the rest is all Green Ranger, even displaying the energy that would usually surround Tommy’s head during his morphing sequences. It was pretty common for the Power Rangers to wear subtle nods to their Ranger uniform, e.g. a green t-shirt or pants, but this time, Tommy’s wearing his Mighty Morphin’ legacy loud and proud.

Tommy’s Dragon Shield glows with power as swirls of green energy flow into his uniform, courtesy of Zordon of Eltar. While many later Green Ranger episodes focused on Tommy’s growing power loss, he could still receivespecialboosts from Zordon, such as in the two-part episode “Return of an Old Friend.”

While the power transfer required a lot of energy on Zordon’s part, here the Ranger mentor shows he has plenty of power to give. Tommy’s pose also truly sells the magnitude of the might he’s receiving, suggesting he likely won’t need another recharge from Zordon anytime soon.

Adam Park was the first Green Ranger since Tommy, starting with Power Rangers Zeo. Fernandez has given Adam’s Zeo Ranger costume a sleek redesign that partly owes its debt to TRON: Legacy. The film’s influence can especially be seen in the lit-up parts of the costumes, as well as the decision to limit the color palette to green and black.Adam’s new uniform also looks more overtly prepared for combat, replacing the original suit’s fabric with segmented armor.

Fernandez has not only updated Adam’s design but all of the costumes of the Zeo Rangers, which can be seen in a special sub-gallery on his DeviantArt account.

7 Green Ranger By Marcus Williams

Williams has completely reimagined the Green Ranger’s identity, giving the character a new look, ethnicity, and hairstyle while maintaining all the character qualities that made Zordon eventually choose Tommy as the Ranger’s leader.

The costume remains largely the same, with subtle additions like small lights in the knee area and under the Dragon Shield; heels have also been added to the boots. Williams has reimagined the entire original team of Rangers as part of his “The Mighty Power Rangers-Multiverse” art project, and the results have been nothing short of Morphonemal.

It’s always a good time to check in on Trip from Power Rangers Time Force…especially since, as this piece reminds, time isn’t something he’s particularly short of. Being the only alien on the Time Force team, Trip may not have necessarily felt out of time, but he did sometimes feel out of place, and his attempts to fit in weren’t always the smoothest.

Yet Trip learned to be proud of being different, such as when he defended Notacon from being killed for being a mutant. Trip also had several powers, including precognition and telepathy, thanks to his forehead gem; he was highly technologically adept, as well.

5 “Cyborg Power Ranger – Green” By Katy Irons

The Green Ranger gets a major upgrade, courtesy of Ulylla Designs, a.k.a. Katy Irons. Tommy’s suit and likely parts of his body have been replaced with intricately designed cybernetics. Notably, cables are connected both to Tommy’s chest plate, mouthpiece, and helmet posterior, suggesting that the suit and maybe Tommy himself need to be charged before going into battle.

It’s interesting to speculate what circ*mstances might lead to Tommy turning into a cyborg. Perhaps in an alternate universe, Tommy sustained heavy injuries while fighting one of Rita’s or Lord Zedd's minions, or even the Rangers while he was still mind-controlled. Cybernetic enhancements certainly could have compensated for Tommy’s waning powers after “The Green Candle.”

4 “Green Parasaur Ranger” By Ricky Gray

There was no Green Dino Thunder Ranger in the Power Rangers’ first season under Disney. However, there was a green Parasaurzord, which was one of several auxiliary Zords used in Power Rangers Dino Thunder.

Gray'sRanger is completely fan-made, with an appropriately green version of standard Dino Ranger uniform and shoulder pads likely inspired by the Black Dino Ranger — who, fittingly enough, was Tommy Oliver, the first Green Ranger of the franchise. The twin daggers, with long, open hilt guards to protect their wielders’ hands, are also unique to the Green Dino Ranger, although its blade designs are not unlike those of the White Dino Ranger’s Drago Sword.

3 “Green Ranger” By Kenneth Gardner

While the average Ranger uniform is resistant to anything from sharp blades to energy attacks, it outwardly resembles an average spandex costume. In the real world, it was spandex, but Gardner has decided to make the Green Ranger suit more overt in the protection it offers the wearer, changing it into some very solid-looking armor.

Tommy always had a slight advantage in defense when compared to the other Rangers, thanks to his Dragon Shield. However, Gardner’s redesign looks strong enough to make attacks from Zedd's and Rita’s toughest monsters bounce right off.

2 MMPR: Dragonzord By Francis Bernardo

With one foot forward, the Dragonzord roars into action in a kinetic piece by Francis Bernardo. While still very recognizable, the Zord has undergone a series of small tweaks, including changes to the shape and color of the chest and the Dragon Power Coin design being incorporated into the robot’s knees and lower arm.

The more angular segmented tail actually resembles that of the Black Dragon, the size-changing Zord controlled by Tommy’s evil alternate universe counterpart, Lord Drakkon. Judging by the Dragonzord’s pose, Bernardo has clearly intended to give the Zord more mobility than it had originally.

1 “Green Ranger Mortal Kombat” By Jesse Bennett

Original image from Bennett’s DeviantArt page.

The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers weren’t exactly averse to killing their foes. They destroyed pretty much any of Rita’s and Zedd’s monsters that didn’t originate as an animal, object, or landmark. Yet gore was rare to see from a Ranger…until now.

Bennett reimagines the Green Ranger as a character in the hyper-violent Mortal Kombat series, combining the character’s classic look with the aesthetic of masked MK fighters like Reptile. His Ranger shirt has become a green and white jacket with the same design, and his headband has the Green Dragon Power Coin symbol as an accessory.
