40 Baby Spice Outfits That Were Everything At The Time (2024)

Believe it or not, today is Baby Spice’s 40th birthday.So to celebrate we’re reliving our childhoods and remembering just how influential her spice style was on our own wardrobes. Starting with this brilliant pairing of denim jeans and jacket, broken up, of course, by a diamante belt (seriously, was there any other kind back then?)

Remember in the later Spice Girls years when they all got a little bit la-di-da and grown up with their outfits? Same. We definitely recreated this black pant and bustier combo for a highschool dance or something.

Boot leg jeans, pointy boots and a shirt that showed just the right amount of belly skin due to strategic buttoning. We hear this.

Wet Look Beach Waves Are So In Right Now.

Basically, just wear your jeans literally everywhere and change the top to a varying fanciness depending on the occasion. We get it, Emma, We get it.

All white lace pants where the VPL is actually a feature and not a faux pas? Yes please.

She was the queen of matching her outfits to her accessories. You’ve never seen a co-ord until you’ve seen Emma Bunton’s wardrobe.

It’s just… a lot. You know. To take in.

Um what about that time she wore a nude coloured LEATHER suit with just a bikini top underneath and then added a tie around her neck even though she wasn’t wearing a shirt. It was actually revolutionary.

DID actually have a dress similar to this. DID dress up as Baby Spice and go to a primary school dance.

OK so maybe they’re all wearing the same thing but 1. It’s fabulous regardless and 2. She was the only one to think to wear red platforms on her feet, because DUH.

Definitely a more relaxed look for Baby Spice. An airport outfit, perhaps? The best part is that she found freaking hiking boots with a freaking platform because SPICE UP YO MOTHER F***ING LIFE

Another corset and pant combo, which we love. But let us also just reflect on the 500 metal bangles she has going up her arm. Remember when people knew you were coming from a kilometre away because you basically just jingled with every turn?

She made it totally acceptable to wear sexy nighties out in public as a dress. A little inappropriate for our younger selves? Maybe. Did we try it anyway? Yes.

Matching your sunglasses to your singlet top is what real styling genius is made of.

OK it was everything back then, but we actually would also wear this now. The bright blue metallic knit dress with matching cardigan oozes 90’s charm, which is a massive trend today.

For when you wanted people to take you seriously…

White flared jeans, a fur vest and a driving cap was all a girl needed in life.

Don’t even TELL me you didn’t own all of these Check short sleeve shirts, beaded dangly earrings and embellished jeans were a fashion girl’s uniform at one stage.

Let’s just have a minute of silence for those fabulous pony tails, shall we?

Again… I just… cannot even.

She was the dancing emoji girl in black before emojis were even a thing.

OK, the layering of tank tops was a VERY important artform. One colour must ALWAYS hang lower than the other, so as to prove to people that you pay attention to detail and really thought this thing through.

She really made it known that if you had run out of coloured blouses to throw under your suit then you could just veto the whole thing altogether. Also, bangs.

Chloche hats were such an important part of accessorising. Also, wearing brown shoes with an all black outfit just never felt so right, right?

Denim jumpsuits with zip-down fronts were practically running out the door at your local Cruise Clothing store.

THIS was where it was all at. Platform sneakers were the be all and end all and when matched with a tiny pastel coloured dress you were going straight to the ‘best dressed’ list.

So corporate cute.

When things get REALLY fancy, just add a dazzling blazer and swap your sneakers for clogs. Works every time.

What even happened to camel coloured boots?

Remember wearing belts so wide that they didn’t fit through your belt loops but it was OK because you wanted to wear it a bit loose anyway because it was more like a necklace for your hips than a means of holding your pants up?

Fellow Spice Girl, Posh Spice (AKA Victoria Beckham) Instagrammed this pic today wishing her baby pal a happy birthday. They look like they could be in a Levis ad and it’s wonderful.
